About Cascahuin: History and Craft

Established in 1904, Cascahuin has remained a family enterprise rooted in El Arenal, within Jalisco’s Valles region. The distillery’s ethos is simple: showcase the agave and the land through time-honored methods. Mature blue weber agaves are slow-cooked in brick ovens, fibers are crushed with tahona, and musts are fermented in open tanks before copper pot distillation. Select lots rest in seasoned oak to develop depth without overwhelming the agave character.

Cascahuin’s commitment to transparency and traditional technique has earned it a reputation among tequila aficionados and professional panels alike. Notable recognitions include a Silver A’ Design Award for packaging and consistently high enthusiast ratings for production integrity and flavor. Flagship and limited expressions—such as Cascahuin 48 and Tahona Blanco—are frequently cited by experts for purity and balance.

  1. Luis Ramirez

I first tried Cascahuin in Los Angeles and instantly became a fan, so when I planned my trip to Jalisco, I knew I had to see the distillery. TQM made it happen, and honestly, they made the whole day way smoother and more fun than if I had tried to do it myself. They handled all the details, the transportation was on point, and everything ran on time without feeling rushed.

The distillery itself was incredible. It’s not flashy like some of the bigger names, but that’s what makes it so special. You walk through the ovens, smell the agave roasting, see the tahona crushing — it’s old-school and real. The tasting at the end was exactly what I wanted: Cascahuin straight from the source, fresh and full of flavor.

TQM even surprised us with an extra distillery stop before Cascahuin, which gave me a chance to compare styles and understand why Cascahuin stands out. And then, to top it all off, we stopped at Cantaritos El Güero on the way back. The atmosphere there is just pure fun — giant clay cups, fresh fruit, tequila, music, and a crowd that makes you feel part of the party.

Huge credit to TQM for putting this together. They made it easy, personal, and memorable. If you’re serious about tequila, this tour is a must.
