The Los Abuelos Fortaleza Distillery Tour is your chance to experience one of the most authentic and traditional tequila-making journeys in all of Jalisco. If you’re looking for something low-key, high-quality, and built around small-batch tequila, this is your tour. It’s not flashy—but it’s real. And that’s exactly what makes it special.

Located in the Pueblo Mágico of Tequila, La Fortaleza is a family-owned distillery that still uses the original stone tahona wheel and brick ovens to make tequila the way it was done generations ago. This place is legendary among tequila lovers, and with good reason. You’ll walk the same paths as master distillers, get a behind-the-scenes look at the production process, and sample tequilas that are consistently ranked among the best in the world.

To get there, we offer two options. If you’re comfortable getting yourself to Tequila, you can book the ticket-only option and meet us at the distillery. But most guests prefer to go for the private transportation upgrade. With this option, we’ll pick you up at your hotel or Airbnb in Guadalajara, take you to Tequila in a private air-conditioned vehicle, and stay with you throughout the experience. On the way back, we can even stop at Cantaritos El Güero—a local favorite known for its massive, music-filled cocktails served in clay mugs. It’s an easy, festive add-on to a day that’s already full of flavor.

Once at La Fortaleza, your bilingual host will guide you through the distillery grounds, showing how the agave is processed, cooked, fermented, and distilled. You’ll taste Blanco, Reposado, and Añejo tequilas and learn to identify the subtle differences in aroma, finish, and character. These are small-batch spirits crafted with care, and tasting them where they’re made is a totally different experience than sipping at a bar.

After your tour and tasting, the rest of the day is yours. We give you free time in the town of Tequila to do your own thing—whether that means grabbing lunch, shopping for souvenirs, or just enjoying the vibe of one of Mexico’s most colorful small towns. No rush, no pressure. Your guide is there if you need recommendations, and your vehicle is ready whenever you are.

All sales are final. Due to Fortaleza’s limited spots and traditional structure, once your spot is reserved, it cannot be refunded or rescheduled. Plan ahead, wear comfortable shoes, bring sunscreen, and get ready for one of the most real tequila experiences out there.
