The Jornalero Experience is a hands-on tequila tour designed for travelers who want a deeper look into tequila production—starting right where it all begins: in the agave fields. You’ll take part in fieldwork, enjoy a countryside breakfast, and explore the distillery process from cooking to tasting.
Tequila Atanasio is a family-owned distillery operating under NOM 1477, located in the heart of Jalisco’s Tequila Valley. Known for its commitment to small-batch production and artisanal techniques, Atanasio maintains traditional methods including slow-cooked agave in stone ovens, natural fermentation, and double distillation.
Founded by the Barranco family, the brand produces 100% Blue Weber agave tequilas using agaves grown in and around El Arenal. Their lineup includes a crisp Blanco, a smooth Reposado aged in American oak, and a rich, full-bodied Añejo. Visitors appreciate Atanasio’s focus on purity, process, and regional authenticity—making it a favorite among both tequila connoisseurs and first-time drinkers.
The day begins with private transportation from Guadalajara. You’ll travel to the agave fields in the back of a local-style truck alongside a small group. There, you’ll plant an agave and observe the harvest process (when in season), guided by experienced field workers.
Afterward, enjoy a countryside breakfast—tacos cooked on a comal and served picnic-style. At Tequila Atanasio, you’ll be welcomed with a cantarito cocktail, followed by a full distillery tour and a guided tasting of Blanco, Reposado, and Añejo tequilas.
To wrap up the experience, you’ll visit the town of Tequila with time to explore, grab a nieve de garrafa, or try Don Javier’s original “Batanga.” The final stop is at Cantaritos El Güero before heading back to Guadalajara.
The full experience lasts approximately 8 hours, including pickup and return.
